I-Renew
workshops provide attendees with the knowledge and confidence to tackle
their own renewable energy projects. In addition, they garner visibility,
revenue, and membership for I-Renew.
Recent workshops included a strawbale house-raising at Echollective
Farm in Cedar County which got front page attention in the Des Moines
Register and drew 20 prospective home builders from across Iowa, Wisconsin,
and Minnesota, including three architecture interns wanting to specialize
in sustainable building materials. At a workshop in Fairfield, participants
installing a solar hot water system at Phil Scott’s home.
In a workshop on geothermal systems, participants discussed and observed
geothermal and waste water recycling systems previously installed at
Larry Marsh’s home near Solon. In a workshop for electricians,
the Indian Creek Nature Center near Cedar Rapids was outfitted with
a new photovoltaic system, and I-Renew members helped to install a 10kw
Bergey wind turbine in West Branch.

Please join us for one or more of our workshops and tours. We cover many subjects, including, photovoltaics, energy efficiency, wind power, solar hot water and green building.
Highlights of 2008 Workshop & Tour Schedule:
March 15, 2008: Tour of Greenbuilt Homes in Fairfield; 1:00 PM
Begin at Abundance Ecovillage and tour the six homes currently under construction. Second, we will tour one of the nicest straw bale homes in Iowa. Lastly, we will tour a beautiful master craftsman owner-built home, constructed out of recycled barn wood- A must see!
May 3, 2008: Tour of Clipper Wind Power
May 31, 2008: Residential Wind Workshop, Des Moines
June 7, 2008: Residential Solar Hot Water Workshop, Des Moines
July 19, 2008: Residential Solar (PV) Workshop, Des Moines

I-Renew completed an exciting workshop in 2005, known as the New
Bohemia Solar Project Workshop -- a hands-on installation of Iowa’s
largest photovoltaic system.
