I-Renew strives to provide the most up-to date information to it’s members. Our new website format utilizes weblogs to allow I-Renew committee members to quickly update their areas on a regular basis. February 6, 2008 Governor Culver has called for Iowa to adopt a 25% Renewable Energy Standard by 2025! This policy will create a stable market for renewable energy in Iowa through 2025. Let your state representatives know that you support Senate File 2070 and 2071, bills that would put this program into action! June 7, 2007 Acciona Energía had announced in February that it was considering West Branch. The city and state provided about $4.85 million in incentives. STATEMENT FROM MICHELLE KENYON BROWN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF IOWA RENEWABLE ENERGY ASSOCIATION (I-RENEW): May 2007 Thank you for supporting I-Renew and attending our Earth Day Clean Fuel May 2007 I-Renew is busy attending expositions and fairs throughout the month of June. To gain the greatest success at these events we need the help of volunteers. By donating some time and enjoying a great event, you'll be able to help I-Renew meet its mission and have an exciting time! We need volunteers for the Iowa City Arts Festival (June 1-3), MREA Susutainability Fair (June 15-17,) and the Radish Healthly Living Fair (June 16-17). April 2007 You are invited to join I-Renew at our free Clean Fuel Car Show outside the Englert Theatre, Iowa City, on Washington St. April 22. Folk Icon Greg Brown and the amazing bluegrass due, Mike & Amy Finders, are playing a benefit concert for I-Renew at Englert beginning at 7:00. October 2006 I-Renew is a core member of the Distributed Generation Coalition, a coalition working for the development of clear and fair interconnection standards for owners of small renewable energy systems! Click here to read our statement to the IUB submitted Oct. 12, 2006. June 2006 I-Renew has hired Michelle Kenyon Brown to serve as I-Renew's Executive Director! Michelle's seven year career working on energy issues includes positions with Iowa Citizen Action Network (ICAN), as Program Organizer, and the Iowa Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (SEED) Coalition (of which I-Renew is a founding member) as Coordinator. Michelle has also served as I-Renew's Membership & Energy EXPO Coordinators. We are excited to work with Michelle to expand I-Renew's reach in promoting renewable energy opportunities throughout the state of Iowa! May 2006 The I-Renew monthly board meeting to be held May 13th 2006 in Pella, IA is open to all members! Please join the board of directions for our monthly board meeting and tour of the Central College campus in Pella, IA. We will meet from 9-12 in Seminar Room 170 in the Lower level of Vermer Science Center with the campus tour to be held after a short lunch break. April 2006 I-Renew would like to announce that we have been chosen as a 2006 recipient of the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence. This award recognizes that many innovative Iowans are leading the way in the protection and enhancement of our natural resources, and that these actions deserve the highest recognition! I-Renew is very honored to have been recognized in this way! There will be an award ceremony where Iowa Governor, Tom Vilsack, will present the award on May 11th, at 2 pm at the State Historical Society in Des Moines. I-Renew will be hosting our own award ceremony and fundraiser at The Mill in Iowa City (www.icmill.com) on Sunday, May 21st from 4-8pm to celebrate this honor. Come check out two local bands, "Celtic Music w/Ankrum, Davis, Fraterdeus, Pierce," and "The 100s, Stripped" (i.e. minus drummer and bass player), while supporting I-Renew and our mission to promote wider implementation of renewable energy. In addition to the music, I-Renew will be holding a silent auction with items donated from local businesses. February 2006 I-Renew begins setting the stage for the 2006 EXPO to be held September 9th and 10th at Solon High School in Solon, IA. Michelle Kenyon Brown, last year's EXPO Coordinator, has accepted the offer to coordinate the EXPO again this year. I-Renew is very excited to have Michelle on board!
