Thank you all for your continued support of Iowa Renewable Energy Association. I-Renew is one of the oldest grassroots, non-profit organizations in the state of Iowa. From 1992, when a small group formed with the hopes of educating and promoting renewable energy in the state of Iowa, to today-14 years later-I-Renew has remained a leading force in the fight towards a more sustainable future. In seven weeks, since the beginning of the new year (2006), I-Renew has received 55 renewals or new memberships, ranging from budget and individual members to corporate and lifetime members. We appreciate each and every individual and family that has been with us in the past and certianly want to thank our current membership for supporting us today. We could not be who we are without YOU!

I-Renew will put your membership dues to work by educating Iowans about the benefits of renewable energy through our workshops, our annual Energy EXPO and our Solar Traveler education program.
• I-Renew’s workshops provide a vital service to Iowans- a chance to learn about hands-on, practical applications of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The 2004 schedule featured workshops on passive solar house design, the installation of a wind turbine, photovoltaic system and a domestic hot water heater. The 2005 schedule will include a large solar installation in Cedar Rapids. The installation is funded, in part, by the Department of Energy. The dates of the hands-on workshop will be determined soon and you will be notified. Remember, I-Renew members receive a discount to I-Renew’s workshops.
• I-Renew’s annual Energy Expo gives the public a jam-packed weekend full of energy related workshops in a festive atmosphere that has something for the entire family. The 2005 Energy EXPO is September 10 & 11, 2005 in Hiawatha, IA. The Energy Expo features workshops, speakers, demonstrations, tours of strawbale insulated buildings, wind and domestic hot water facilities; electric car displays and demos; vendors, exhibitors, entertainment, children’s activities, and food. The 2004 Energy Expo drew over 2000 participants and renowned Green Building author Dan Chiras was our keynote speaker. The 2005 program is now being planned.
• I-Renew’s Solar Traveler is used as a traveling display to promote solar power and renewable energy. The unit is comprised of 24 silicon solar PV (photovoltaic) panels, 16 deep-cycle six-volt batteries, a 4,ooo-watt inverter, and a Sun Selector DC (direct current) digital power center. Be on the watch for a Solar Traveler sighting near you! I-Renew is working to expand the Solar Traveler into a Renewable Energy Traveler by adding a small wind turbine and a prototype biodiesel processing unit.
I-Renew’s programs depend on support through membership.
I-Renew has plans to open an office in Eastern Iowa which would give I-Renew members greater access to information on renewable energy and energy efficiency. It would also give members a space to work and to learn together to grow I-Renew’s resources and programs.
We won’t accomplish all of our goals for 2005 without membership support.
Members receive a subscription to our quarterly newsletter, Energy Matters, discounts to our workshops, free admission to our Energy EXPO & access to the leaders in the renewable energy community. Those who join at the Individual Member level and above also receive a membership gift of an I-Renew T-shirt.
Please fill out and send in your membership form today. To get a form, check out our website, www.irenew.org, or email irenew@irenew.org
