Passive Solar

Passive solar space heating is the logical first choice of energy conscious, thrifty buyers and builders.  Passive solar heating systems are very reliable and maximize the seasonally varying solar path.  In winter, south facing windows collect the sun's rays and in the summer overhangs, awnings, or shutters prevent heat gain through the same windows.

The three key elements of passive solar design are south facing windows, storing heat in high thermal mass materials (concrete, brick, stone), and the ability to contain building heat through proper insulation.
