The I-Renew Energy EXPO 2006 is the 15th annual Expo hosted by the Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-Renew). The EXPO features workshops and speakers covering many topics- from renewable energy- wind, solar & more, sustainable living, green building, entrepreneurship and DIY (Do-it-Yourself), children’s art, energy efficient technology, renewable fuels, alternative transportation, advocacy, etc. For this year, we are adding a “Local” focus to cover local energy, food and fiber. The 2006 Energy EXPO theme is: “Energizing Iowa’s Communities.”
Our Saturday keynote speaker is Steve Andrews, 25-year energy consultant and writer, long-time speaker on peak oil, and advocate for balanced energy strategies. Our Sunday keynote is a panel presentation on renewable fuels.
The I-Renew Energy EXPO also features a demonstration area including cars that run on alternative fuels, bicycle art & technology, solar & wind energy, hydrogen storage and a fuel cell, among other creative demonstrations. We will have exhibitors from the business and non-profit communities that fit within our theme, including local food vendors, plus the I-Renew Silent Auction, Children’s Program and family entertainment.

The Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-Renew) presents the 14th Annual Renewable Energy Expo on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, 2005 at Prairiewoods in Hiawatha, Iowa, 120 E. Boyson Road.
The I-Renew Energy EXPO is a weekend-long renewable energy and sustainable living festival; open to the public, offering nearly 100 workshops, a Children’s program and demonstrations of renewable energy.
The I-Renew Energy Expo gives the public the opportunity to learn about renewable energy and sustainable living in an open, fun and friendly environment. The theme of the 2005 Energy EXPO is “Switch on Renewables.” The EXPO runs 9 to 5 on Saturday and 10:30 to 4:30 on Sunday.
The Saturday Keynote this year is Peter Dreyfuss, Director of the US Department of Energy’s Midwest Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy since 2000 and DOE’s National Coordinator of the Million Solar Roofs Initiative. Mr. Dreyfuss will be in the area to attend the dedication to the New Bohemian Solar Project on September 9, 2005, a day before the EXPO. The project will be installed in August through a workshop sponsored by I-Renew.
Our Sunday Keynote will be Kamyar Enshayan, adjunct professor at the University of Northern Iowa and author of “Living Within Our Means. Beyond the Fossil Fuel Credit Card”
The workshops will cover such topics as renewable energy production and energy efficiency to renewable fuels, sustainable living, green building, utility issues, renewable energy advocacy, energy education, energy entrepreneurship and job opportunities.
Our vehicle showcase will include: a wind and solar powered RV, vehicles that run on biodiesel, vegetable oil, an electric bus, electric/ gas hybrid vehicles, a solar powered electric bicycle—and more! The event will feature demonstrations of solar & wind power and other energy technologies. One of the many highlights among many include an opportunity to learn how to make biodiesel fuel through a workshop and demonstration.
Along with the wide variety of workshops and vehicles being presented at the Expo, there will also be an Exhibitor tent, where folks can speak with vendors of renewable and energy efficient products and other sustainable living products.
Children's workshops will be held throughout the weekend. The workshops will teach kids about energy from the sun and wind through fun activities. There will also be a drop-in and do art program throughout the weekend. A juggler, drummers and a puppet show will add to the festivities for the entire family.
A silent auction will be held both Saturday and Sunday, where a variety of renewable and energy efficient products will be auctioned off to the highest bidder as a benefit for I-Renew. Food vendors will be on site and will be serving lunch both Saturday and Sunday. Parking is available on site. Admission to the event $5 per individual, $10 per family, suggested donation. Peter Dreyfuss from the Department of Energy to give Keynote at 2005 EXPO
We are happy to announce that Peter Dreyfuss, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Chicago Regional Office has confirmed that he will give the Saturday Keynote speech at the I-Renew Energy EXPO. Peter will be in town to commemorate the New Bohemian Solar installation and to address the audience at the I-Renew Energy EXPO. The DOE's Chicago office works with States, cities, counties and other public and private stakeholders to implement programs, deliver technical and financial assistance and to transfer clean energy technologies that meet our nation's energy needs, enhance our environment and strengthen our national competitiveness. The Chicago region covers the following eight Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In the fall of 1997, he was appointed National Coordinator of the Million Roofs Initiative, which is a strategy to place solar energy systems on the roofs of one million U.S. buildings by 2010. Peter has worked for nearly thirty years in the human services and community development area and for the past twenty-five years in energy efficiency, transportation and environmental programs. He has a degree in Special Education from the University of Iowa.
