Solar Tour

On October 1st, The Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-Renew) will be providing environmentally friendly transportation (for up to 8 people) for a guided tour of 5 Solar and other renewable energy sites in and around Iowa City for the 2011 National Solar Tour. The 5 guided tour sites and some additional sites will be open for self-guided tours from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

 Schedule (Times Are Approximate)
11:00 AM Meet at University of Iowa Solar Car Charging Station (640 South Madison St, Iowa City)
11:45 AM Private home tour: super-insulated home with solar hydronic heating system (827 Church St., Iowa City)
12:30 PM Green Delta T Solar Heating
(2150 Prairie Du Chien Rd NE,
Iowa City)
1:00 PM Return to University of Iowa for those who don't want to continue for the southern leg of the tour
1:30 PM Yoderville BioDiesel Collective - with PV, solar hot water and biodiesel processing. One of I-Renew's transport vehicles will be running on 100% biodiesel made here from used cooking oil (4630 Orval Yoder Turnpike SW, Kalona)
2:00 PM Farmers Electric Cooperative - Solar tracking PV array and Community Solar Garden Project -  Warren McKenna will talk about FEC's solar installations, energy efficiency programs, and Iowa's first Community Solar Garden project (1959 Yoder Ave SW, Kalona)
3:00 PM End of tour - Return to University of Iowa to retrieve personal vehicles

I-Renew is partnering with Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center  in Hiawatha, IA site, of I-Renew's Iowa Renewable Energy Training Center, and Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for this year's national solar tour. If you prefer a self-guided experience and are in the Cedar Rapids area, please visit these sites. Information on other tour sites will be available at Prairiewoods and Indian Creek.  A map with information on additional sites outside of the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor will be available at the tour meeting sites.
